"Taras Bulba" is a dramatic story written by a famous Russian writer Nicolai Gogol. Events take place in the second half of the XVI or first half of the XVII century. Zaporizhia Army Colonel Taras Bulba together with his sons fights an unequal contest against the arbitrariness of the Polish gentry on his native land.

In 2009, a collaborative Russian-Ukrainian-Polish film of the same name was made, with well-known Ukrainian actor Bohdan Stupka playing the major role. The bust, sculptured by Anton Derbilov, has a life-like portrait resembleness with this actor. The warrior is wearing Zaporizhia Cossack clothing with elements of armor captured from Rzeczpospolita (Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth) winged hussars.
