With Jamie’s method and guidance this piece surprised myself quite a lot.
The miniature was sculpted by Jamie @a.man.painting.miniatures and it turned out so very differently by all the participants!
I decided to copy one of his pieces. I struggled big time with the colour choices. But the it felt like it took me by the hand and guided me where it wanted to be.
And it happened rather quickly for such a big piece! Mind you, I normally take my fair time painting.
After reading Romans @romanlappat.miniatureart “The Art of Roman Lappat” (which I can warmly recommend) I also came to terms to finally call myself an “artist” and my work as “art”. Even though I enjoyed a formal education as a graphic designer with a masters in visual communication I really never considered what I create as art, more like a commodity to be made on a transactional basis for a customer.
After I finished reading the book it made me think a lot.
And that I am very well a product of my education. We learned to kinda disconnect our hearts from our “products”, to not channel raw emotion into something.
So doing this was very freeing and kinda cathartic.
Also that I am not alone in my struggle.
And that we are happy to be in a fantastic community with tons of like minded amazingly creative people.
