Ebony by Stella Argentis is another exercise in getting better at painting skin. I started this mini with acrylics, during a business trip but was not happy with the result so I decided to use the lighting and repaint it completely with oils. I think that this skin is probably my best and I hope that I will remember the lessons, but while painting the next project it already feels like I've forgotten everything. I have also tried to stick to a specific lighting situation creating a cast shadow I think it is way too dark, but I am content with it. The hair is very roughly sketched in and not done properly because there honestly is just too much hair on the bust and it did not feel like fun. But maybe I can get back to it and repaint it for a competition.

While painting I tried to stick to references for the first time and I have to say that I was really pleasantly surprised. I like that Rembrandt's triangle frames the face but I struggle with the correct colours in the shadows and the references do help a little bit with it. I hope to explore more lighting situations this year.

The bust is from Stella Argentis and they have very cool range of similar busts. Sculpted by Alejandro Munoz and I have to say that the face is really great and I like all the subtle volumes.

Štěpán, I confirm that this is your best skin so far! I like the bust colour harmony overall (does not matter if intended or not:) Funny note - when i read your description I could write the same by myself:) I struggle with my memory too - always when I start new project. You "hair paint" explanation made me laugh, same here. Gold.
