Something very different from my usual works - a Mechanicum Thanatar Cavas Siege Automata by @warhammerofficial

I used to play 40k a lot back in the 4-5ed days, and I was always drawn to the lore and aesthetics of the Adeptus Mechanicus. Back then the only way to get any sort of minis like this was Forge World, which was prohibitively expensive for many, including me - so when I've heard they're releasing probably my favourite Warhammer model ever in plastic, I jumped at the chance to paint one.

This was a completely different experience to what I usually do with my models. First of all, I spent a LOT of time on model prep, which I almost never do with resin busts and other large scale models (firstly because they don't usually need it, and secondly because I wanted to add a lot of weathering and battle damage already at this stage). As for painting, I went for a TMM look, using a lot of exotic (to me) products, like lacquer metallic paints, wax metallic polishing compounds, and the dreaded oil and enamel washes (I've always had a hard time to get them working right). I also tried to incorporate some of the more "classic" painting techniques, like directional lightning and texturing, to make it look like more than a gaming piece. The result is somewhat acceptable in my mind, even if some things are lost in this compromise.
