Sun Knight, Sir Waxly
painted
by
Štěpán Tichý
Because I complicate things way too much I decided to create my unique Sir Waxly sculpted by my bro @zabaart_ and switch the snail with a different sculpt of his, Sluggy.
I wanted to push myself and do my best and I think I managed to do that. By switching the snails I've made things way too complicated and therefore the painting was much harder than I anticipated. But I loved every minute of it. It was frustrating and painful and doing the freehands pushed me I redid them so many times I wanted to quit. But I am so glad I stuck to my plan and did a version of the figure I wanted with at least 75% of the original plan.
This piece was also done fully in oils with the exception of the black suns and a few touch-ups. And I am very glad that slowly I am feeling more comfortable with oils. One thing, I missed after finishing was painting with brushstrokes as with acrylics :D I am also kinda happy with the base. I wanted to create a base where the black is showing and I loved doing it.
One thing I am not happy with is the positioning of Waxly on the snail. He should be more straight and centred. But that`s what I get for rushing the glueing and not doing a proper control check.
I think the photos do not do the figure justice. I think it looks much better in hand, which is always better and most important to me but it does frustrate me that the figure photographs very hard because of the silhouette and painting. Maybe the magenta antenna should be brown and more desaturated.
