Oda by Scientific Models
painted
by
Piotr Pieścik
Oda by @airat.sculpt & @scientific.models .
This, to me, is a model sculpted with historical accuracy in mind, so I approached the paintjob with the same theme in mind. I used a lot of reference photos and researched the possible colours and materials to create something as true to history as I could. Of course many liberties were taken, as with every historical reconstruction of a topic that lacks period-accurate photographical documentation, but I think the result is at least believeable.
This time the hardest thing to achieve here was the smooth and soft look and feel of the black kimono - the paintjob on that element might look simple, and the greenish hemp overcoat definitely steals the spotlight with its texture, but in the end, I probably spent a similar amount of time painting both elements, as it was a long process of trial and error to get the black to where I wanted it to be, and feel interesting even without any texture and minimal reflectivity.
C&C encouraged and appreciated!
