I've long been weirdly fascinated with Aleister Crowley, and it always bothered me that no one had produced a bust or a figure of the Great Beast himself... so I commissioned a sculpt!

I knew that putting him in black robes ran the risk of looking quite dull and muted, so I decided to try a really rich black - it's pretty much all reds, greens and blues, with black only in the darkest shadows. I then used Black 4.0 on the disc backdrop to try to emphasise his character and the richness of the robes. Hope that works!

This is a great little bust. I think that the black 4.0 must work irl much better than on the pictures and then the miniature stands out even a little more. I like how the symbol on the hat stands out. Awesome stuff!

I was honestly a bit disappointed with the Black 4.0 - it's extremely matte, but not as void-like as I really wanted. Possibly it shouldn't be airbrushed (despite being advertised as suitable for airbrushing!).

This is outstanding! Not just the topic and the character portrait, but also how you tackled the tonalities of the blacks! Well done! Only the backdrop of your photos ins confusing, maybe you can put it a bit further away from the miniature, with enough distance it should turn blurry and not show to much texture details that are confusing. Lovely! Keep on happy painting!

Thanks, Roman - really pleased you like it! Photography is something I've always struggled with, sadly.
