The Bajau spearfisher - by Stepan Nikolaev
From Nordlys Miniatures. https://nordlysminiatures.com/product/bajau/
Naturally, this project was a challenge, but it was quite a wonderful project to do.
I have a weird thing where I keep doing water miniatures for Nordlys - but stay well clear of clear resin. All projects I have done have failed with clear resin.
With this project I was not trying to do something so colourful, but getting the colours right was so tricky. I studied a lot of photos - but, alas, didn’t work out how I wanted. I really wanted the drop off reef effect to work, and get the speared fish to float. Also, the depth of the coral reef. And the kayak to feel natural. It all worked a bit, but not quite enough. Seemed like a mathematical formula I couldn’t quite brain.
I actually really want to do a new version. One with flat top, kayak seen from above. I know one can do an effect where the depth is faked - but that is just me afraid of the clear resin - I should try. Sandy bottom with rocks and seaweed, and diver. And kayak.
How hard can it be, right?
Mostly painted in oils.
