This was my entry for Golden Demon UK 2023. After having done plenty of dwarfs and goblins in recent years I decided to do an elf this time, long due in my to-do list.

Even though I called him “King of the Lumineth”, I played with visual ambiguity so that this could pass as both a High Elf prince or a Lumineth lord. In my mind I devised the project as a modern take on Warhammer Fantasy character Aenarion the Defender, First Phoenix King of Ulthwan, holding aloft the sword of Khaine at the Shrine of Asuryan.

The conversion is made up of 30+ plastic and metal pieces from the Lumineth, High Elf, and Eldar ranges as well as original sculptwork. The base is handmade with Ureol, Milliput, and plastic and metal bits.

I wanted him to have an angry and haughty look, and I wanted to place him in an elegant scenic base, inspired by the classic High Elf by Martin Footitt in 2005. As for the paintjob, I attempted a very bright and luminous look, as befits the Champion of Light.

    Every few years there comes along a miniature which pushes our understanding for what is possible. This miniature really pushes the goalposts forward quite a bit in my mind. The conversion, the perfection in the paintjob at every millimeter, composition and color choices are all amazing. Every time I look at this I discover something new to be amazed over.
