I’m excited to share this piece that I painted to show sadness and tried to adjust facial volumes to try to convey those emotions. It was a really difficult challenge to convey those volumes with the key light coming from below and ultimately had to fudge the lighting with some soot on his forehead and underneath his cheek to help with the volume interpretation. But I do hope the atmosphere, lighting, and expression of sadness come through!
