With this work I wanted to respect the illustration to a great extent with only small changes for make it work well in hand. The lighting is very unique and a really interesting challenge. There is a soft light from the water surface and a strong light very close to her from below as if coming from a glowing fish. Then a third light, slightly weaker, also close to her from her middle right. It was a wonderful experience for me and I hope you enjoy it.

What a super interesting and brave paintjob. It seems as if she is see-through. Like deep sea strange creatures. Like she is thoroughly floating in sea. All these colours are really delicate. I honestly had to give it some time to think about it, as I felt initially it lacked some definition. But I understand fully why you didn’t. Had you defined more, you would not get spirit/floaty/ghost/translucent/glowing feel of the original illustration, and this perfectly examplofies the balance in getting these things right and the sacrifices needed to make!Alex ✍
