Taking good photografies is, as with everything els, a proper jungle, so no shame in not being an expert. Som simple pointers would be these: 1) Have a uniform background, preferably one darker than the model. 2) Have not than 1 lightsource and place them from multiple angles. 3) The lightsource(ses) should be behind you. 4) Dont use a heavy spot, the light needs to be doused a bit.
You can either buy a light lightbox or you can make one yourself, just google lightbox, that helps a lot.
