Here is Cozy from Creepytables. In terms of the overall shape and detail this is a simple model but to consider it is simple to paint would be a complete and utter understatement. Because of the way it has been created it leaves very much to the painter. In order to spice this one up a bit, I decided rather than going for the usual high light from all angles I wanted to try and paint her to have some very dark shadow and hardly any light from her 'off' side. Always looking for that little bit of extra challenge right? Got to learn something with everything.

This ends up making the rear of the model almost blank and dark blue and purple. It's weird though because the back of the model is the least detailed part of the model I think I can get away with it here without looking completely wrong.

I was also challenging myself to see just how smooth I could make the paint look on this model. I don't know how often I will try and go this smooth because it honestly doesn't look THAT much smoother than my usual work but it takes far longer.

I really hope you like it :)

Wow, that i crazy nice. How was the method different David? I think it does show for sure. And fits this model so well. The dark side of the model, well, there is not much going on so it doesnt matter all that much.

lighting spot on ,and the eyes draw you in , i too would like to know how you got it so smooth
    • DavidColwellPLUS

So I painted a couple of my recent models. Seth and cozy by using only stippling for the skin. And by using only stippling and painting only dots even from the first first stages of the painting (like base coat up) the texture gets baked into the smoothness by the fact that the paint itself becomes and causes a little bit of a bumpy surface. I hope this short explanation will help. If you’re interested to chat about it more please pm me on Instagram or Facebook.

That skin is amazing! Did you layer it from dark to light?
    • DavidColwellPLUS

Hello. The skin I painted on my last 2 models. Cozy and Seth. I used a new method for skin which I used only stippling for the entire process. I had airbrushed the model in a dark blue purple colour and then on top of that I would paint the stipple dots of the colour I intended each place to be, when I paint like this I’m aiming to paint the areas exactly as they should be in the finished look of the model using only dots or like pixels / pointillism. I don’t really build up in the normal way using base coats or anything just paint what I hope will be the right colour in the right place at the right time, of course I’m still learning this and trying to figure out the best way to do it and so I don’t get it exactly right and have to re-paint some dots and also to get the smooth look you need to eventually come along with some almost glaze consistency and paint around and on top of many of the other dots. If you’d like to get some wip pics of the process please pm me on Fb or Ig.
