Velit is a type of light infantry in the ancient Roman army. The armament of velita was a short sword gladius and several darts - hasta velitaris. For protection they had a round shield- parma. And his head was protected by a simple helmet.
Very little is known about the gladiators-velites. Most often they fought against each other.
