Probably the last thing you will see in the forest, unless you are very lucky.

A study in dappled light/light through a forest canopy, and Native skin tones inspired by the general features of this bust from Black Sun Miniatures - Solrak the Savage. The features reminded me/ seemed plausible to paint in Native skin tones, and naturally that evoked thoughts of guerilla warfare in the early history of Europeans in North America.

The metals against the skin was very interesting, as it was an opportunity to look out, opposed to in, and play with that. It proved an entertaining experiment overall.

Although I don't think the dappled effect is convincing, its a unique concept and an admirable effort. I feel like it shold be less hard edged, more subtly shifting shades on the skin and weapon. I like the skintones and warpaint.

Absolutely appreciate the critique, thank you for taking the time to provide it. Hardness of edge of course will depend on distance from the cast shadow, but I agree it could have been a bit less heavy handed. The biggest issue being at project end you know a lot more than project start, and I didn't hate myself enough to circle back. So I file it under next time, when the itch comes backs around. Thanks again.

What Trent said. Really brave approach and I do like him overall.
    • Kyle Maitland

Thanks Roman, it was a project entered in knowing full well failure was a realistic option, so feedback is always appreciated. Thanks for helping drive home where to improve next go.

Very Nice attempt at a really hard subject! Agree with the other guys…but kudos for being brave enough to give it a try! Gold for a pretty decent effort!

Big thumbs up for one of the bravest ideas this year. Applauds for trying, very inspiring ❤️
    • Kyle Maitland

Thanks Alex, my personal demon is every project idea is terrifying, for one reason or another. I need to reign it in at some point, but why would I let myself be comfortable?. The encouragement means a lot from a painter of your skill.
