Awesome colors and composition! My only gripe is that the cutouts behind her feel too much, well, like cutouts. As in the sharp edges they have make them stick out a bit too much. But maybe that's the point?
Hey Tapio! Yes! Thank you. That was definitely the point. The thing is, for some people memories are so distorted that they are simply props. People stop being people. And just, well, bricks. So I definitely wanted them to feel different. Like, they don’t cast a shadow, but have reflections for the viewer. Meaning, in reality they are not there. For her they have no relevance anymore. But as part of the story, they are. So, with this, I chose narrative over harmony, and losing the cutouts would have been the easy choice. It is a as much an attempt to do storytelling in a different way as it is a painting. Meaning, if I had lost the cutout memories the point would have been lost - but it would have been a nice picture. Do you understand what I mean?
But! I get your point. I added a bit of paint afterwards to ease the sharpness a bit so they would stick out that much. But I did want the difference to be noticeable, but maybe not this much. Thatnk you for your interest!
I had a feeling there was a reason for them being cutouts and I completely understand your reasoning behind the idea. And, even though I'm a sucker for visual harmony, in the end I'd also propably choose the narrative above harmony to drive the point home.
Right, well, I do both. This was just something else. Sometimes you can do both. And I could not find a way to do both with this one, so I chose the story and the narrative. If I had found a more clever way to do the cutout I would have. In the end I think it works also because it seems odd, and there people think about the point of them. Thanks again for your interest.
Thank you so much Roman. That means a lot to hear. As you can probably tell I took a chance with it. And I am very happy that you can feel the piece. Gives me courage to try to explore other topics in the future. For now, I would like to paint an orc though. Exploring this topic has been heavy. But for now I am very proud to have it received this way. And I thank you especially for your kind words.
Gerry, thanks so much. Very happy to hear that! It is a new style for me, so I was not sure if people would feel it. But it is special to me too, so I am touched by your comment.
