Last year I really got the urge to do some creature painting as I've always loved films like Alien and Gremlins but have never really tried to paint a creature in a similar style. Then BrokenToad released an update to their first bust "Tooth fairy". Now I did paint Tooth Fairy four years ago but was never really happy with it (it was first bust I finished) so this was perfect and Russ had done a great job sculpting.

I looked into maquette painting and creature effects after talking with a couple of friends and picked up some ideas and tips. Usually it would involve airbrushing but I don't have one so it was all brush work. Lots of inks and trying to create texture while also trying to keep in mind this is double scale rather than being miniature.
