This project was a partial result of a workshop with fernando Ruiz in 2014 in Blumberg, Germany and a partial result of my second private coaching with Roman Lappat this spring in Augsburg.

The bust is the anglo-norman crusader from H&V miniatures. A piece I really like.

Its actually somewhat usual for me as I didnt try to realise a concept or study a specific topic or question but just painted it as it came.

The initial work was done during the above mentioned class with Fer (last picture), however since the result was so much better than anything I was able to paint at the time, I never dared to get back to it and complete it. Especially the face had me totally in awe.

When the private coaching with the topic "finishing things" came up, I thought its the perfect shelf of patience project to tackle. And I was amazed - I basically repainted the whole thing in long afternoon.

Its certainly not my best piece - but finishing it up was surely satisfying. And tbh. I think the face is better now than it was back then ^^
