Ride. Fearless. Let your instincts guide you.

This is an incredible bust. Huge. Scary to tackle. Super difficult in terms of lighting, as it twists. But ever so rewarding. Fueled up with #happypainting energy, and daring to boldly state #fucksmoothness, I threw paint on this in an attempt to recreate the look and feel of classical oil paintings. Lit from an overcast day in the late afternoon, it is without great bold colours. And although my initial idea was to have great bold vivid and saturated warpaint, the first time I attempted this I was completely thrown off. And just left it at that. Very desaturated, but with great big contrasts. Creating a strong dynamic feel, which I feel is fitting for this dynamic pose. It was a challenge, but my most satisfying yet, and funny to look at images from the beginning, as they are pretty different from the final result.

PS: I know pictures suck. I will be better at this. Until now, I have not really needed better photos than facebook would compress and destroy, so I need to step up my game here. Really exposed on a big screen! But I love brush strokes, so it is fine :)

I have two copies of this in my todo pile and have yet to get the courage to paint it. There is a lot of different elements and dynamism in this piece and i think you have done a great job. The intensity of focus on the elf rider is 'just enough' without skimping on the details on the less obvious parts. Well done chap!

Thanks so much! Very Happy you like the pair. I had no room for him in my case for Duke, but then maybe for Monte. It is interesting, i have several of his pieces at home, and am hesitant to start. Mama buho is really scary and the Goblin King is just a Big project. But I will one day, once I gather the courage. Do paint this one though! I would love to see what you will do with it!

Awesome work! I did this piece for a collector and wished I got studio pics. I did buy it again though and I’m going to do it similar to show.
