Hey all, I wanted to upload some pics of my final entry for Crystal Dragon this year. It has certainly been an interesting finished result on this model and even though I think I achieved what I set out to do I am still not sure whether I really love this piece or not. It probably could have used a lot more work on the light spots and the shapes of the light on the model but I was rushing to get it done before the event and sometimes you just have to call something finished.
I felt like it could have used some more shadows in areas, darker spots to help accentuate the lighter spots. This was an absolute shot in the dark for me, I had no idea what I was doing when I started this and slowly started to refine the technique as it went on so I'm completely aware of how weird it looks and how it comes together okay as a whole piece but maybe not when looking up close at certain details.
Needless to say, I learned a LOT during this one and I look forward to trying this technique again on a smaller scale model as I believe it will be easier / better to achieve the look I want now that I understand how to paint it a bit better.
I'm hoping some of the other amazing artists here will give this type of painting a try and do a far superior job with dappled light than I have. I'm not 100% sure but I think this is the entry that made me win peoples choice. I hope you like it
