Oliver Cromwell - A Fool’s Bauble
painted
by
Fet Milner
This was a really interesting piece for me, as I wanted to create a famous scene from English history. In the mid 17th century, Oliver Cromwell (who was quite an awful person) dissolved parliament because they wouldn't do what he wanted - despite having deposed the monarchy for also trying to get around parliament. He ordered his soldiers to remove the politicians, pointing at the Speaker's Mace (which is one of the symbols of parliamentary authority) and declaring it "A fool's bauble".
Cromwell himself was sculpted by Mike Blank and is available from http://www.darkstarmini.co.uk/Dark Star Miniatures, and the rest of the scene was scratchbuilt.
