The diorama shows the retreat of Napoleonic troops from the Russian front between October and December of 1812. At the start of the campaign, Napoleon had around 692,000 troops, of which only 58,000 return to France. A big percentage of the losses were due to the low temperatures (close to -30ºC).
I played with several ingredients to achieve the frozen lake effect. At the same time, there are two identical figures, one which was heavily modified, changing the head, hiding holes in the cloths, changing the position of the rifle, getting rid of some elements, adding the backpack, etc. So, at the end, one imperial dragon got transformed into a grenadier.
