It has been almost fifteen years since I painted the last figure, not counting the demonstrations, and I have enjoyed it again as if it were the first day. The victim for the return was an amazing bust modeled by Romain Van den Bogaert for Figone - JBT figure art.
As soon as I saw the sad face of this poor Troll covered with mushrooms and small vegetation made me think of some ailment that tormented his existence and after a few days spinning I came to the conclusion that he was dying for lack of water.
Its crown of colorful mushrooms and fresh mosses had to contrast with areas of skin cracked by the lack of water, rotten by lack of life and grazed by lack of nutrients. His half lost look seeks explanation and help at the same time.
Is it a bust or is it a landscape? Is it a man or a tree? Is the representation of the skin cracked by dehydration or is it a landscape with loss of soil?
Without soil there is no life.

Thank you very much, Paolo! It is a weird bust. It is probably not the best bust of the excellent Romain Van den Bogaert but I love it. I haven´t seen many interpretations but there are two that I really like.
