I painted Sang-Eon Lee's wonderful bust for Crystal Brush 2017 and ended up in 3rd place in the bust category. I wanted to capture the Russian soldier grasping at some glimmer of hope amidst a hopeless and devastating war...and to practice some techniques and theory I learned form Kirill and Alfonso's classes! (: This was my first historical figure and it was a blast to paint. Yea I was kind of sad about the crystal brush pics since the face was complete in the shadow, but it did give it a darker feel. Oh well...thanks though! I really liked your bust too!

Hi anthony. you asked me about my opinion so here it goes. I
think the overall look of the piece is good. but you have a lack of definition in many areas. not smoothness.. i mean DEFINITION. one of the main reasons is that you use always the same diffuse lighting. the face is a great example. due the position and the helmet that should affect the face.. to have so white illumination there looks odd, and the way that you made every volume so rounded also looks a bit fake. nevertheless this is a big avievement . so i am very happy and proud of you. hugs
