Sentinel of R’lyeh (2016)
painted
by
Steve Haydon (Forté)
Loved this bust from the point that Raffael Picca posted and early WIP photo on Facebook. Was stunned by the quality of the sculpting and sheer amount of detail when I finally had a copy of the bust. And FeR resin and casting made this bust a joy.
Painted for an admin competition on the 'Eavier Metal Facebook group in 2016 which was voted for by group members. This meant that all progress had to be secret so no posting while painting was allowed at all, which was weird and meant less feedback during the process too.
I tried out some of the Vallejo Metal Color paints on this one and love how smooth they are, even with a normal paint brush.
Hopefully I managed to keep the skin looking dead, but I felt the colours needed more rage and anger. That's why I went for the red cloak. Think it worked, but I'm still learning (well, I have learn't a lot since then).
Thank you for looking and may you brushes stay pointy.

And the curse of photos has just reminded me that I forgot to clean up the underside edges lol. Typical.
