At the Somme 1916
painted
by
Kristian Simonsen
They come sneaking through the mud at night, hoping to make a difference.
A more than 4 months battle of attrition, the Battle of the Somme is to this day, a century later one of the largest single battles ever fought in war, costing almost a milion lives. It also saw the introduction of the tank. The french and brittish won the battle and managed to push the germans and the frontline back by abuot 10 km. A pyrrhus victory if there ever was one.
