About
I am a 55 year old father or three grown boys. I watched my brother build and paint a Donier Do 17 when I was about 5 and I have been building models ever since. Though I build many different types of models, they have almost all been military craft and dioramas. Back in 2014 i began to build models for two different large museums here in Texas after winning firsat place at ModelFiesta 29 in San Antonio with a Tomahawk Mk.IIb, which is the English version of the P-40 Warhawk used by the Flying Tigers in China. I was honored to be asked to build requested items for the museums, but in no time my Hobby had become almost a full time job. I walked away from building models all together until 2020. I was just so burned out on it at that point that it had lost all of its appeal.
In January 2020, my youngest son asked me to paint the eye on a Beholder figure by Whiz Kids. When I had finished the eye, the boys asked me to complete the paintjob and as I did, it reignited my love for modelling. At that point I was in a whole new Gemre (Fantasy) and had to learn a whole new way of painting. All my painting before that point was done with Testors Enamels and now almost everything is painted is done with acrylics. There was a learning curve o using acrylics or me, thinning the paints to apply thin coats over a Zenithal basecoat, concepts such as glazing and my weathering to that point doen with drybrushing and washes. Also coming from a strictly military background, I was able to paint fantasy models however I wanted, so I also had to learn color theory. I will say it was difficult at first to come up with color schemes for the things i did paint., but after a little experience, it started to become easier to explore the color palete with each new project
