Fernando RuizPLUS
Painter from Barcelona, Spain
About
I was born in Málaga, Spain, in 1975. Since I was a child, I grew fascinated by everything related with the world of miniatures, modelling and military and fantasy subjects.
In the early 90′s I started painting figures through Games Workshop. Also, I started painting historical subjects through Élite Miniaturas, also located in my hometown. There, I had the chance to meet names like Raúl García Latorre or Pepe Gallardo. That changed my perspective of the hobby forever.
In 1997 I moved to Barcelona for a position in Games Workshop and I lived a long period in which I was interested in the hobby from the point of view of a wargames player.
About 2006, I started to think that I wanted to improve my painting skills and do miniatures only for showcasing and not for playing. I started to watch forums and went to my first show, the “Soldat de Plom” in Girona.
I started to compete in shows, improving my painting skills little by little and, best of all, meeting lots of new friends.
In 2009 and 2010 started a more professionalized period, in which I started to compete at international shows, painting figures for collectors and also boxarts for miniatures companies, like Art Girona, Nocturna Models or Vesper-on Games.
At 2011 I begun a more educational new angle and started to host painting seminars in Spain and also some foreign countries like Brazil, the Netherlands or the United States. This is one of the parts of the hobby I enjoy the most, as it gives me the chance to return a bit of all that I learned from all those friends full of talent and, of course, meeting lots of new people and visiting distant places.
The actual phase started in late 2012, when my friend and painter Fernando Sánchez and I decided to start our own miniatures company, Heroes & Villains Miniatures. Now, I’m enjoying a lot the chance of releasing our own projects and collaborate with the best artists of the international scene. Until now I have been able to coordinate all these aspects and I hope to have still room for some new projects and ideas.
