About
I paint mainly on twitch and occasionally off camera and post weekly wip updates on socials. I do that for the community aspect and for the sake of making transparent and sharing the journey and experience as well as how I improve as a painter over the years. A nice side-effect of that, is that I have a detailed journal of my miniature and figure painting development over those years, through pictures and text.
I’ve first picked up the hobby of minipainting through Lord of the Rings miniatures when I was like 13 or 14 years old, which started out to be just for gaming, but even back then I found a deeper appreciation for the painting side of things. After that 3-4 year period was over I didn’t think of or look at any miniatures/figures for ~15 until I randomly found my way back into it through a friend, starting out with AoS minis and my first 40k boxes of the Custodes range. - Since then and through the pandemic, I’ve found myself drawn into display painting and even went to a few competitions, even letting go of the idea of actually playing 40k on the tabletop and focussing on the painting side almost entirely. Over the 5 years since then, formed the firm belief, that this is a hobby - a craft - I want to continue for essentially the rest of my life and continue improving it throughout my life. Slooowly and steadily, of course. I have goals, but I’m in no rush to achieve them.
By day I’m working as an in-house graphic designer for a mid-size software company, a job I found my way into right out of uni, where I studied a multi-facetted version of design studies, which allowed me to explore a number of fields within the extremely divers term of “design”. In fact I didn’t even intend to get into graphic design, but product design instead, because I always appreciated the practical side of that field a lot. I guess I’m compensating for that shift through the physical medium of miniatures, now.
Those studies did offer the great opportunity of attending classes on very relevant topics like color theory, composition, design thinking, sketching, photography, etc. which are incredibly transferrable to miniature and figure painting. Because of that, my journey always had an interesting angle to it. I didn’t have to learn these things from zero, but instead had to figure out how to re-apply them in this new medium, while learning the practical skills needed in this hobby. I think that was both a very privileged and interesting aspect to my journey so far.
I hope you’ll enjoy looking at my work and how it will change and improve over the coming years.
(PS: sorry for not adding my real name and profile picture. that’s not something I do lightly, after over 12 years on twitch)
