The Blind Death

Concept: Thierry and Patrick MASSON
Sculpture: Patrick MASSON

Blind death height: 70mm from feet to top of the head
Total height: 280mm

It is a project I have been working on for 2 years.
This project intends to show my very personal vision of the death.
I had something in mind about duality between beauty and fear but I was not really able to concretize my idea and I exposed it to my brother Thierry. From my rough idea he found a fantastic one and then it was an exchange to define the different ideas behind this character. Thierry helped me by doing a sketch of the concept with zbrush in order to define the best pose for it.
Then I was able to start and make her.
During these 2 years I can’t say how many hours I have been working on this project and how much dedication it was.
This piece will not be painted and will stay as a pure sculpture.
She is fully done in Fimo.
Her scythe is made in a mix of Fimo and magic.

She was first seen live at MSS show 2015 but was unfortunately broken.
I am sorry for the pictures that are not that good, I was intending to do better ones after the show and make a 360° video of the full figure with the base but it is not possible anymore.
I recommend you to look the different views as this is a piece which takes its interest when you discover the back by turning around.

I hope you’ll enjoy her, I am very proud of the work I have done on her and this is for sure my best piece to date.

  • Anastasios Kandris

    Outstanding work!!!
  • Ben (EclypseDesigns) Curry

This is nothing less than top marks. Anyone giving this less than gold clearly has no idea of the work and skill of this. I was privileged enough to see this work at MSS and was blown away by it. Sad that there is no sense of scale in the photos, this is much smaller than you might think. My heart sank when i heard it had been dropped by one of the judges. All i can say is fate must've played its part, you have been given an opportunity to adapt and improve it (if even possible). You made it once, you are capable of making it again. Keep the faith!
    • Patrick "The Small" Masson

Thank you very much Ben, I really appreciate the comment and glad you like her. Will try my best to fix her for sure.

This is truly a master piece of sculpting. I am speechless when seeing the sculpture details, the pose and the overall design. You are so talented!
  • Jero Miniatures

    Gold for the Best!

A true masterpiece. It has a sad story to it about the show and ... what the hell, I am totally fine with your "bad" photos. This is an amazing sculpt! In every aspect. No paint needed here! Just perfect as it is and there is so much deeper to read from, a lot of the person you are and your connection to the topic death. I really bow my head.
  • Damien Tomasina "Aphorys"

The volumes' fineness ; the concept is a horrible wonder; it is graceful and gore as well. The imposing scenery represents nothing precise but specifically puts the subject in context "The End", inviting to travel. This figure is the expression of all contrast. A big applause to you both for this masterpiece.

  • luisgomezpradal

One of the best piece of monte san savino...absolute amazing...I love the dinamism of all the piece...great
  • CedricBataille-Petitpedestre

A bientôt
  • Diego Esteban "dieguetestudio"

I love Patrick, when I saw her last year left me very impressed, spectacular. The most amazing I saw in Monte. Congratulations, seems to me perfect and impossible to paint, it transmits all with the sculpture, no need color.
  • Erwan JERGER

    Une pièce superbe, tout simplement.

BRUTAL...One of the best of the contest in Monte Savino!!!!
